The man proceeded to proudly show off his back which was bleeding after he cut the letters APC into his skin and posed for a snapshot. Local reports show that the unnamed young man carved the words into his skin after the APC candidate, Buhari was re-elected following the 2019 general elections. It is not clear where exactly the incident took place.

From PMB to GMB

(Photo by Audu MARTE / AFP) At last we witnessed it: the 2019 presidential election which has been “won” and lost,” and which shall give rise and further rise to the problem of ethnic conflict in our country. We voted last Saturday, February 23, 2019 historically speaking, but “factually” speaking what will induce the looming katakata began on Saturday, February 16, when INEC wilfully jettisoned the wish of the electorate by scabiously, scabrously and scabbily shifting the voting day in headstrong or obstinate disobedience to the popular will. Of course, any casual follower or reader of our country’s strategic manoeuvres in every negative bend would not fail to notice that INEC was conjured to do what the commission’s chairman was conjured up to do and obey. What I should say, in other words, or by way of putting it differently, is that anyone who suffers from physical or spiritual or prophetic aniseikonia would not notice or see properly the impetus of the immensity that prope...

Woman drags father to court for rejecting her fiance

Image
A   25 years old woman, Rose Bulus, yesterday, dragged her father, Josiah, to a Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State for refusing to allow her to marry a man she loves. The complainant, who lives in Kaduna Central Area,  told the court that she converted to Islam, to marry the man she loves, but her father refused. “I want the court to compel my father to allow me to marry the man I love and if he refuses, the court should do the needful,” she prayed. Josiah, the father of the complainant told the court that he was not aware of his daughter’s relationship with any man and was surprised to see a court summons. Josiah said: “The supposed suitor has never visited me to ask for the hand of my daughter in marriage,” he said. The judge, Malam Dahiru Lawal after listening to both parties said: “Even though marriage is a union between a man and a woman, parents’ consent is equally needed before the union takes place.” He ordered the suitor and hi...

My #Nigeria decides 2019 diary

INEC officials accrediting voters during previous election Dateline: Friday, February 15, 9pm, Abuja, Area 3 Shopping Plaza. I dash off to the petrol station to fill up my tank for the assignment of the much awaited presidential election of February 16. On my way home, I get a call from my dear wife reminding me about buying stuff she needs to make small chops, which I had elected to share with my fellow voters, irrespective of which side of the divide they may stand, on the D-Day. I make a detour for Area 3 Shopping Plaza to purchase the items including bread, butter, sausage, sardine, eggs and fruits, among others. My phone rings and I get a tip off (I am a journalist on sabbatical and my sources are still active and not lifeless) about the prospects of postponing the FailBuhari elections. Hell no, I mutter to myself, can’t return what is already paid for. Moreover there is no way to confirm if indeed the elections will be postponed. I return home to drop ...

Only fools die for politicians

Image
A chapter in my new book, “Nigeria: Why Looting May Not Stop,” is entitled, ‘Dying For Looters.’ It happens all the time! The rescheduled presidential and national assembly elections are here with us. One very sad, painful truth is that there are some fellows who call themselves “party supporters” who may not live to see the end of the voting exercise tomorrow or hear the results declared. There are some others too who may die the day the results would be announced because they would eagerly indulge in some violent activities on behalf of some politicians defeated in the elections. But these are clearly avoidable deaths which will only happen if people refuse to learn from the past foolish mistakes of others, and so fail to place appropriate value on their lives. In this case, it is a choice, either to live or to die. Many politicians who are out there threatening to unleash fire and thunder during these elections have carefully removed their families very far from the battle...

Why journalists must be promoted

Finalists and judges during the 2014 edition of the CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year competition • Sustainability argument weak for resting CNN/MultiChoice Journalist of the Year Awards After 20 years of rewarding excellence in journalism across Africa, one of the most prestigious events that celebrate outstanding journalists on the continent came to an abrupt end in 2016. The CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year competition held its 21st awards in Johannesburg, South Africa, in October 2016. That edition turned out to be the last as the organisers later announced they were pulling the plug on a competition, which had had a profound effect on the African media landscape since its establishment in August 1995. “CNN and MultiChoice are proud to have run the CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Awards for 20 years, and in that time met and supported many inspiring and young journalists who have since grown and developed th...
