Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. Hate speech: DSS arrests PDP Spokesman

The Director, Media and Publicity, Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Organisation, Mr.Ben Bako, has been arrested by security agents. It was learnt that, Mr.Bako, has been taken to Abuja headquarters of the Department of Security Service, DSS,for questioning over what it referred to as hate speech made during the PDP campaign in Kafachan last week. Recall that the All Progressives Congress,(APC), supporters have earlier called for Mr. Bako’s arrest over alleged incitement. They further claimed that, the PDP’s Spokesperson had told their supporters in Southern Kaduna during one of the opposition’s campaign rallies to attack anyone who will vote for APC in the area. Reacting, PDP Deputy Campaign Director-General, Ashiru/Marshal governorship Campaign Organisation , Mr.Danjuma Sarki alleged that the arrest “was orchestrated to persecute and silence the opposition in the last days of the election”

Hate speech, use of hard drugs pose serious threat to polls

[FILE PHOTO] Hate-speech A non-governmental Organisation, CleenFoundation, has warned that hate speech and misinformation by the media remains a critical threat to credible elections. It also identified widespread availability and use of hard drugs as serious threat to the electoral process, especially in the northern part of the country. Its Executive Director, Dr. Benson Olugbo disclosed this while presenting findings of its nationwide Election Security Threat Assessment (ESTA) in Abuja. He said the survey, which was conducted in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), uncovered other factors that may endanger the process. They are: proliferation of arms, insurgents, godfatherism and marginalisation of vulnerable groups, among others. However, this decision to monitor social media accounts of important personalities in the country is not going down well with stakeholders in the ICT industry.
