Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. ASUU strike: NANS blasts lecturers after agreement with FG

Following the agreement between Federal Government and lecturers, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has asked the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to suspend the ongoing strike. On Monday, January 7, 2019, the Federal Government reached an agreement with ASUU leaders in a meeting held in Abuja. According to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who was also at the meeting, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N20billion, to offset the outstanding arrears of the 2009 to 2012 verified earnings in the universities. Ngige added that earned allowances will be released to ASUU as soon as the process is completed. Despite the agreement between both parties, ASUU president, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi, while speaking with journalist after the meeting said the strike would not be called off.
