Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. ASUU strike: FG pleads with lecturers, promises to pay new minimum wage

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has pleaded with striking university teachers to show mercy on students by calling off their strike. The teachers, under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), began a nationwide strike since November, last year, over some disagreement between the union and the Federal Government. Ngige, speaking with reporters in Awka, Anambra State on Sunday, also declared that Federal Government would pay a minimum wage, adding that things were being worked out by the Committee saddled with that responsibility. He said: “FG will comfortably pay minimum wage, we want to pay it, but there must be balancing because figures were bandied and we are asking Labour to exercise patience. “I appeal to ASUU and Labour to have mercy on students and be patient. Chief Son’s Hand Hacked With Machete During Fight, Almost Falls Off. Graphic Photos

A man luckily survived after being hacked during a violent clash yesterday evening in Bayelsa state. It was gathered that the injured man, said to be a chief’s son from Ekpetiama clan, an Ijaw ethnic group in the state, was involved in a brutal fight which saw various weapons used. According to reports, in the course of the fight, the chief’s son was cut on his hand with a machete. The man whose hand almost fell off, was rushed to the hospital where he was immediately treated by medical personnel. It has been scooped that the wounded man is recuperating as a call has been made to the youths of Ekpetiama to embrace peace and stop fighting.
