Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. Police officer shot dead while chasing armed robbers in Ekiti State

A police officer has been shot dead in Ado, the Ekiti State capital while chasing some armed robbers.   The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, confirmed the news saying the armed men were said to have robbed a business outfit and while attempting to escape they were sighted and chased by the officer, who was driving in a white Hilux van.   The criminals, on the other hand, kept shooting at the vehicle and in the process, shot and killed the policeman after which they escaped. Other officers later visited the scene to evacuate the corpse which was, thereafter, taken to the morgue of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH).

NURTW chairman to die for killing Police officer

By Henry Umoru A   Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, yesterday, sentenced the Aiyetoro Unit Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Saheed Arogundade to death by hanging for killing a police officer, Gbenga Oladipo. National Police Cap Arogundade was convicted after Justice Olabisi Akinlade found him guilty of a two count charge of murder and conspiracy to murder. He was initially arraigned alongside five others: Mustapha Layeni, Adebayo Abdullahi, Seyi Pabiekun, Sikiru Rufai and Yusuf Arogundade, who were later discharged and acquitted by the court. According to the state prosecutor, Mrs Rotimi, the Police officer was brutally stabbed to death on April 10, 2010 by the NURTW chairman and some thugs at Gbara Junction of the Aiyetoro area of Ajegunle, Lagos.
