Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday reacted to the reported rescue of 400 men and boys in a building in Kaduna, where the detainees were allegedly abused and tortured. President Buhari has departed Abuja for New York, USA ahead of the 74th Session of United Nations general Assembly. Buhari’s participation at this year’s gathering of world leaders is particularly significant as it coincides with Nigeria’s Presidency of UNGA. Recall that on June 4, 2019, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, was unanimously elected as the President of UNGA74 – an indication of the country’s high esteem in global reckoning. The theme for UNGA74 is,  “Galvanizing Multilateral Efforts for Poverty Eradication, Quality Education, Climate Action and Inclusion.” The General Debates will kick off on Tuesday, September 24 during which leaders of delegations will present their National Statements as well as speak to the theme of the session. President Buhari, Aisha vote at the Presidential and National Assembly Elections at  President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday morning reaffirmed his confidence in winning the presidential election. Mr Buhari told reporters shortly after voting at Kofar Baru, Sarkin Yara “A” ward in Daura, his home town, that he would win the election and congratulate himself. Clad in a light blue `Babbar Riga’, the president was accompanied by his wife, Aisha, and some security details. Mrs Buhari was the first to vote before the president at 8.06 a.m., while the president voted at 8.10 a.m. “So far, so good. Nigerians understand and are behaving themselves,’’  Mr Buhari said when asked to give his assessment of the exercise, so far. When asked if he would congratulate the winner if he lost the election he said,  “I will congratulate myself; I am going to be the winner,’’  the president said.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has warned the Federal Government against failing to disburse the N25bn agreed upon. It warned that should the Federal Government fail to disburse the N25bn agreed upon for revitalization of public universities, the “struggle continues”. National President of ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi issued the warning as contained in the body’s official Twitter handle on Monday. Ogunyemi was quoted by the handle as saying the funds will be closely monitored when released by the government. Atiku Abubakar The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has described as fake, a report that claimed it has endorsed the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar for president, Vanguard has reported. ASUU made its position known in a statement signed by the chairmen of the union’s branch in Ogun state university and those of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, and the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye. According to ASUU, the said report is a  “fabrication, completely nonexistent and a figment of (the) imagination of the newspaper reporter.” It explained that its body is national and as such, takes decision unilaterally and not what a report claims that its faction in a university took a decision. The President spoke when he received some Nigerians in his office in the state house recently. According to him, he will not write a book because he does not want to hurt anyone. Buhari said:  ''Some people said I should write a book. I don't think I will ever write a book because I don't want to hurt anybody. Hurting in the sense that there are certain people that I cannot resist abusing. "But that hasn't got anything to do with their children and their grandchildren.
