Linking misuse of blood tonic to drug abuse

Image
Anthony Bola Oyawole • Parents Must Become More Involved In Their Wards — Oyawole The immediate past Lagos State chairman, Pharmacists Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. Anthony Bola Oyawole tried to link the age-long blood tonic to possibilities of addiction. GERALDINE AKUTU reports Youths are reported to now take to blood tonic to get high. Can you enlighten on this? Orheptal blood tonic has been in existence for quite a while, and it has served the family well, as it contains Ferric Ammonium Citrate, an heamatinic used for treating iron deficiency, vitamins B1, B2, B12, and liver extract, among others, to combat vitamin deficiencies.  These ingredients are carried in an alcoholic base of about 13 percent strength to deliver their therapeutic actions; hence Orheptal blood tonic is an elixir. I wonder why it can be abused, as it contains no psychoactive or mind-bending substances, and the alcoholic strength is far below what is available in the spirits/hot dri...

Why this maid was a Godsent to my dad and I!

Image
Zack is a 39-year-old I freak who runs a very high-tech cybercafe.  He also has this reputation of being a chronic womanizer – a fact he readily agrees to, blaming his sexual addiction on his father, he explains.  “My father never married my mother because she was in school when she had me. When my grandmother who was looking after me died, my mother was still busy pursuing her academic career, so it was decided I should go and live with my father.  I was already a lanky lad of 15 and my dad was still unmarried.  I couldn’t cook and it was quite expensive buying already cooked food, so he looked around for a maid. The first one lasted a few months and was sent packing because she stole.  Then a co-worker bought this beauty to be our housemaid.  She was a 19-year-old and the understanding was that she would learn a trade.  So she settled for fashion designing. “It was inevitable that my old man would start sleeping with Moira, the ma...

“What hurts the most about being a rape victim in Nigeria” – Writer, Tope Delano

Image
Nigerian writer, Tope Delano has taken to her social media page to share her thoughts on the alarming rape cases the country has been witnessing for quite some time now. According to Tope, being a rape victim in Nigeria comes with a whole lot which is asides the victim having had to be stripped of their being. Delano details how most victims would rather not share their story to avoid stigmatization and being blamed for the act. She wrote, Do you know what hurts the most when it comes to rape in Nigeria, this is asides having been stripped of your BEING… Is knowing that you can not share It’s knowing that even when you do share, you will most likely be blamed and expected to just move on immediately It is knowing to prepare yourself for stigmatisation should you decide to share and this, many would rather avoid thus the decision to not share at all and just wallow in the emptiness and pain Tope Delano @Tope_Delano  ·  2 h Do you know...

Why we dumped Buhari for Atiku —Northern Stakeholders Forum

Image
Kano— Northern Stakeholders Forum, NSF,  has given reasons why it dumped President Muhammadu Buhari and chose Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Saturday’s presidential election. Atiku and Buhari Speaking recently at a zonal town hall meeting at Mambayya House in Kano, Aminu Adam, Director, Action and Mobilisation of the group, said they opted for Atiku Abubakar because Buhari had disappointed Nigerians. According to him, the group supported Buhari in 2015 when there was so much yearning and agitation for credible leader who would move northern Nigeria forward. He added that they were among the youths, who orchestrated a protest in United States of America, when they suspected rigging by PDP in 2015 elections, which apparently showed Buhari had an edge over Dr Goodluck Jonathan, calling on international communities to pay attention to the polls to ensure Buhari’s success. He, however, said when Buhari came to power, they reali...
