Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has lambasted the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government over the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Speaking with DAILY POST, AYCF President General, Yerima Shettima described the Buhari-led Federal Government as “insensitive,” following the refusal to meet the demands of ASUU. The ongoing ASUU strike which commenced on November 4, 2018, still lingers due to the inability of the Federal Government to meet the demands of the aggrieved lecturers. Reacting, Shettima lamented that the Buhari-administration has downplayed the educational sector and the future of the younger generation. Against this backdrop, the AYCF President General urged Nigerians to vote against the Buhari in the forthcoming presidential election. According to Shettima: “This government is very insensitive, no matter what, we can’t downplay our educational sector, we can’t joke with the education of our younger genera...
