Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, says he is not under any pressure and has not considered resigning even though there have been calls in some quarters seeking his resignation.  Professor Yakubu made this known on Thursday, at a press briefing at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He said, “I see no reason to even contemplate resigning”. The INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood has explained why the commission postponed the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, February 16. Speaking at a meeting with stakeholders in Abuja, the INEC Chairman ruled out political influence in the postponement, saying that the commission takes full responsibility for the anomaly. Giving reasons for the postponement, Prof. Yakubu said, “The decision has nothing to do with security,  political influence or inadequate resources ” The meeting followed INEC’s announcement in the early hours of Saturday postponing the general elections by a week, less than five hours to the start of the polls.
