Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. Nigeria Decides: Shina Peller wins Federal Constituency seat

The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr Oluwashinaayomi Peller, the winner of the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/ Iwajowa and Kajola Federal Constituency seat in Oyo State. INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun, who declared the result, said Peller polled a total of 44,088 votes to beat PDP’s Najeemdeen Oyedeji ,who polled 31,336. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate and federal lawmaker, Olasupo Abiodun, who was elected in 2015 on the platform of the APC, came third in the contest with 12,309 votes. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was wild jubilation at the collation centre after the returning officer announced Peller as the winner. The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke has emerged winner in the Saturday’s Presidential/National Assembly election to represent Etinan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The Speaker, who contested with his opponent of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dan Abia Jnr. polled a total number of 44,830 votes to defeat Abia who scored 15,800. Meanwhile Luke is currently representing the people of Nsit Ubium State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State Legislature.

Nigeria Decides: Atiku wins all 15 central polling units in Mpape, Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday won all the 15 voting points in the Presidential and National Assembly elections at Mpape Central polling units, marked 006 and 007 situated at Mpape Primary School, Abuja. A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored voting point one of polling unit 006 reports that PDP polled 92 votes against 64 of the APC in the presidential election; PDP got 95 votes against APC’s 60 in the senatorial, while PDP got 91 votes against APC’s 62 in the House of Assembly election. At voting point two of 006, PDP polled 120 votes against APC’s 23, while PDP polled 117 votes against APC’s 24 in the senatorial. PDP also got 110 votes against APC’s 23 in the House of Assembly election. Also, in voting point three in the same polling unit, PDP got 118 votes as against APC’s 33 in the presidential; PDP got 125 votes against 34 in the senatorial and PDP got 120 votes against APC’s 33 in the House of Representatives election. ...

Nigeria Decides: Tiwa Savage reveals what happened in her polling unit

Africa’s frontline female singer, Tiwa Savage, has revealed the situation at her polling unit when she cast her vote in the presidential and National Assembly elections yesterday. The singer said she voted under a peaceful condition, but lamented the crisis and snatching of ballot boxes in other units. DAILY POST had reported that the election was marred by violence and ballot boxes snatching in some areas in Lagos State. Videos have since emerged online showing some thugs confidently moving ballot boxes from polling units while the electorates watched in amazement. Tiwa, who also voted in one of the polling units in Lagos State, however, lamented the rate at which thugs operated during the polls. She tweeted, “Even though it was peaceful at my voting booth, it is still very very heartbreaking to see some of these videos and what happened at some other voting booths.”

Nigeria Decides: kidnapped corps member regains freedom

The Police on Saturday confirmed the release of the abducted member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Indiokolo community, in Orumba area of Anambra State as ad hoc staff. Also, the state coordinator of NYSC, Mr Aremu Kehinde, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the female corps had regained her freedom more than five hours after her abduction. Kehinde said the corps member was in good health condition after her release by her abductors, who are yet to be arrested by security personnel. A statement signed by SP Haruna Mohammed, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) and made available to NAN on Saturday stated that the corps member serving as a presiding Officer was picked up early Saturday morning. Mohammed also explained that the police arrested seven persons in connection with vote buying and disruption of electoral process. Nigeria decides: Thugs confidently move ballot boxes in Lagos [VIDEO]

A video has emerged on social media showing some thugs confidently moving ballot boxes in Lagos. Though the polling units where the boxes were snatched are yet to be ascertained the thugs were seen moving the boxes without any form of confrontation. While some people that are believed to be voters stood aside and watched, there was no presence of police or other security agents. DAILY POST had earlier reported that some ballot boxes at Polling Unit 18 located at junction of Ohafia/Ago Palace Way, Okota in Oshodi/Isolo LGA of Lagos State were set on fire. Nigeria Decides: CAN condemns INEC, speaks on postponement of election

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has described the postponement of the Saturday’s elections as a national embarrassment and setback. The President, Rev Samson Ayokunle, said this in a statement by his Special Assistant, Media and Communications, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, in Abuja on Saturday. According to the association, it first came as fake news that was totally far from the truth, thinking that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) got enough time to prepare for these elections. “They got the needed fund released to them earlier enough and also assured Nigerians that elections would go on as scheduled without any issue. “This is a National embarrassment on the nation, as big as Nigeria with many highly qualified professionals, yet we postponed the elections on the early hours of Election Day,” he said.
