Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. Kaduna NLC joins nationwide protest against delayed implementation of new minimum wage

The organized labour in Kaduna State joined the Tuesday’s nationwide protest over the delay by president Muhammad Buhari – led government in transmitting the recommendations of the tripartite committee on the National Minimum Wage to the National Assembly. The organized labour’s protest followed President Buhari’s statement that a high powered technical committee would be set up to devise ways to ensure that its implementation did not lead to an increase in the level of borrowing. The state organized labour said that the workforce in the country was determined more than ever to ensure the N30,000 minimum wage agreed is fully implemented. It observed that the tactics adopted by the present administration were an indication that it is shying away from fighting corruption.
