Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. INEC To Reschedule Elections In Rivers, Lagos, Anambra Over Violence

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Saturday, said that it would reschedule elections in some parts of Rivers, Anambra and Lagos States where there were cases of violence and ballot box snatching. The commission which specifically mentioned the National Assembly elections in Rivers State, also acknowledged the challenges of smart card readers, saying they have been resolved. INEC Commissioner and chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, while giving an update on the ongoing elections, said where the malfunctioning of smart card readers were not resolved before the closing of elections, voting will continue the next day. He said, “ We received reports of violence and ballot box snatching which took place in Akokotoro and Bonny LGAs in Rivers State; and some parts of Lagos and Anambra states. Nigeria decides: Thugs confidently move ballot boxes in Lagos [VIDEO]

A video has emerged on social media showing some thugs confidently moving ballot boxes in Lagos. Though the polling units where the boxes were snatched are yet to be ascertained the thugs were seen moving the boxes without any form of confrontation. While some people that are believed to be voters stood aside and watched, there was no presence of police or other security agents. DAILY POST had earlier reported that some ballot boxes at Polling Unit 18 located at junction of Ohafia/Ago Palace Way, Okota in Oshodi/Isolo LGA of Lagos State were set on fire. Breaking : Thugs burn votes in Okota, Lagos

News reached us that some thugs came to a poling place in  Okota, Lagos  and they set the votes on fire. People ran for their lives when the thugs came, they lit up the elation votes in the ballot box and took off. A woman could be heard screaming “  They burnt our votes, can’t you see they just burnt our votes” . We are waiting to know what effect this will have on the election.  There are security people assigned to all polling places but we are not sure if the security team stepped up to the thugs. US Closes Abuja, Lagos Offices For Elections

The United States has closed its offices Abuja and Lagos ahead of the general elections. In a statement on Friday, the US said it took the decision after the Federal Government declared Friday work-free day. It explained that the closure of the embassies was to allow its Nigerian employees to prepare and participate in the rescheduled polls. The US advised those seeking consular services on Friday to reconsider their decision as none would be available. It also said those whose appointment for regular visa or ACS has been fixed for February 22 would be contacted for rescheduling. Pandemonium As Fight Breaks Out Between Two Sex Workers In Lagos.

Two ladies, Favour Nwachukwu and Ada Anago, have been arrested and charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court in Lagos for engaging in a public fight over sex clients. The fight reportedly took place at Railway compound in Iddo area of Lagos where they were said to have stationed to solicit for male customers for sex. It was gathered that the defendants had a disagreement over who will be taken for sex and in the process the disagreement resulted in them fighting publicly. While the fight was going on, the police patrol team raced to the scene and arrested them. They were detained in the cell for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace. However, while they were still detained in the cell, they continued the fight before a police officer on duty rescued the situation. Drama As Angry Man Attacks PHCN Official With Machete Over Light Disconnection In Lagos (Video)

It has been reported that a staff of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) was assaulted and beaten with a machete while trying to disconnect light in an area in Lagos. In a video which has gone viral on Facebook, the man and the IKEDC official can be seen engaging in a serious fight before the resident rushed to his house to get a machete. Despite being begged by residents to stop the fight, the young man descended on the official with the weapon. Watch the video below:

  Alowonle Asekun Alowonle Asekun, the Treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Jibowu-Yaba Branch was killed by hoodlums in the Grammar School area of the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State last week. According to reports, Asekun, while on his way out of the Ajasa-Lamberu Street in the Grammar School area, was accosted by the hoodlums, who reportedly shot him to death in front of First Atlantic School on Friday, February 8, 2019. Eyewitnesses who spoke with Punchng at the scene of the incident, said the hoodlums trailed Asekun to the area, adding that the news of his death had caused panic in the Jibowu and Fadeyi areas of the state.  One of the eyewitnesses, Akeem Adepoju, said Asekun was shot three times and died on the spot. Agbaje reveals promise APC uses to ‘scam’ Lagosians ahead of elections

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has decried the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge as a ‘pipedream’ the All Progressives Congress (APC) will use to win votes during elections. He said transportation difficulties being experienced by residents in the state will end, assuring that his government would provide a succour if elected. Agbaje, in a statement by the media office of his campaign organisation on Sunday in Lagos, assured residents of access to modern mass transportation modes if elected in the March 2 election. 2019 elections: Buhari arrives in Lagos for campaign

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Lagos, as he continues his bid to be re-elected. NAN reports that Buhari and his entourage landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos, at 10.13am on Saturday amid tight security. The president was received by All Progressives Congress chieftains and supporters including Governors Akinwunmi Ambode, Abiola Ajimobi, Rotimi Akeredolu and Abdullahi Ganduje of Lagos, Oyo, Ondo and Kano states respectively. Others were the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu and Lagos State APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Buhari is scheduled to visit the Palace of the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu and the State House in Marina. The President will then proceed to the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, where he will address people and solicit their votes.

A young girl has been crushed to death in Lagos state, sparking serious sadness among family and friends. According to a reporter, a Bus Rapid Transit vehicle belonging to Primero Transport Services Limited knocked down 18-year-old Adanne Isaac and killed her on January 27, 2019. It was gathered that Adanne, who had gone to grind pepper somewhere around the Irawo bus stop, was on her way home to change her clothes that were stained by pepper when one of the BRT buses plying the route knocked her down as she attempted to cross the dedicated BRT lane. It was learned that the driver of the bus fled the scene of the accident when some angry people, who were pained by the loss of life, descended on the bus and attempted to set it ablaze. Fortunately, there was no life loss, according to Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, who responded promptly to the distress call. Abule -Egba The latest incident apart from no life loss, is reminiscent of the Abule Egba pipeline explosion on 26 December 2006, killing hundreds of people.
