Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. As the presidential election draws nearer, in Oyo State, the political headquarters of South West, indications have emerged that some women have used their Permanent Voter Cards as collaterals for loans, Vanguard reports. This was disclosed at a town hall meeting with women groups and gender-focused CSOs for enhanced participation of women in elections, held in Ibadan on Friday. This came just as women in the state expressed fears about their security as a result of alleged increased violence among political parties. The programme was organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in collaboration with Educare Trust. One of the women at the event asked thus: “as the election is fast approaching, there are some of us women who have used their PVCs to collect loans.
