Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. AVM Jumo Osahor, Director-General, Defence Research and Development Bureau, Abuja says the Armed Forces of Nigeria will require about N9 billion to provide military boots annually to meet soldiers kitting needs. Army Osahor made this known in a paper he delivered during the Third Annual National Conference organised by the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists of Nigeria (SLTCN) at the Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST), Samaru, Zaria, Kaduna State. The theme of the conference is: “The Contributions of Leather Science, Technology and Innovation to the Nigerian Economy and National Security.” NAN also reports that the Commandant spoke on: “Indigenous Leather Production and Military Kitting: The Armed Forces of Nigeria Perspective.” “The Armed Forces of Nigeria will require about N9 billion to provide a pair of working shoes and boots for each soldier. “The amount will double if we are to provide two pairs each per soldier every year. ...
