Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. MC Oluomo reacts to backlash he received over his invitation to speak in UNILAG

Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, MC Oluomo, has reacted to the backlash he received over his invitation to speak at a programme in the University of Lagos. MC Oluomo was invited by the National Association of Geography Students, UNILAG chapter to give a speech at their function today September 19th but the invitation was greeted with widespread criticism. Many Nigerians felt that MC Oluomo who is not educated, should not be given a platform in a citadel of learning such as the University of Lagos. Reacting to the criticism, MC Oluomo  said he did not attend the event again as he is currently in Abuja attending to urgent matters. Exam malpractices: Management of Polytechnic of Ibadan burns phones seized from students (Photos)

The management of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo state on Wednesday, July 10th, set ablaze myriad of cell phones seized from its students during examination periods. The Deputy Rector of the institution, Bayo Oyeleke, who monitored the exercise, said the phones worth millions of naira, were recovered from the students during examination in the school and that the school has decided to burn the phones to restate its commitment to fight examination malpractices to the barest level. “We are here to take further action on our resolved to ensure that the crop of students and product being produced by the school are students with exemplary character and are those who really work and worth the certificate of the institution.” he said. Oyeleke added that the exercise will serve as deterrent to students of the institution who wish to further indulge in the illegal and inappropriate act.

JAMB approves 160 as cut-off mark for 2019 admission

The 19th Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria has approved 160 and above as the national minimum cutoff mark for admission into state and federal Universities for the year 2019. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Bola Babalakin Auditorium, Gbongan, Osun State today Tuesday June 11th. It was also agreed that the minimum UTME score for admission into private Universities should be 140. 120 UTME score was approved for polytechnics while 110 score was approved as the least score for admission into private polytechnic.

University of Uyo bans use of wristwatches during exams (Photo)

The Management of the University of Uyo, Uniuyo has banned the use of wristwatches by its students during examinations. A statement released on the 20th of May and signed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Prof. Enoidem Usoro, states that students are now prohibited from wearing wristwatches to examination halls; and the ban takes effect from the 1st semester 2018/2019 Examinations. PHOTOS: Driver Kills 4 School Children While Using His Cell Phone

Four school children have been lost to the cold hands of death by a supposed rash driver as they strolled home from school.  The late pupils of  Ugwube Primary School, Oba, Anambra state , were on their way home from school yesterday when the driver lost control of his Pathfinder jeep while purportedly using his telephone, and he ran into the children at the Oba Road, killing them.  Of the four children, two are from a same mother. Three of the children gave up the ghost on the spot while the fourth passed on at the emergency clinic.

FEE HIKE PROTEST ROCKS ONDO STATE AS STUDENTS SHUTDOWN CAPITAL

Adesola Ikulajolu  Students of two Ondo State institutions, Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko and Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa has shutdown the state capital to protest in the hike in their tuition fee.  SMART360MEDIA CORRESPONDENT gathered that the students gathered in Akure, the state capital as early as 6am and we're joined by the counterparts from other institutions.  The protest currently ongoing is to demand for reduction in their tuition fee.  Recall that the two state owned institutions were shutdown indefinitely following a mini protest that rocked their campus over tuition fee saga.  The two institutions went  on Mid-Semester break which has now being declared "till further notice". University Student Rusticated For Calling Vice Chancellor 'Foolish' On FB

A student of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Ikot Akpaden, has been suspended “indefinitely” from the school for allegedly calling the university vice chancellor ‘foolish’ on Facebook. The student, Joy Nkanang, was in her second year in the department of performing arts before her suspension on May 9. Ms Nkanang, from Akwa Ibom State, on May 5 made the following post on Facebook:  “AKSU what is happening? A dry cleaners shop was robbed last night along college road….” Ms Nkanang’s Facebook post, PREMIUM TIMES learnt, was about the increase in cult activities and insecurity around the university campus.
