Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. Delta University sacks two lecturers, others in trouble over alleged gross misconduct, sundry offences

Angered by what it described as sundry offences and alleged gross misconduct by some of the lecturers, the management of the Delta State University (DELSU) has dismissed two of its lecturers in the Department of Economics, and sent a professor in the same department on compulsory retirement. Three other lecturers of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension are also in trouble over alleged sex-for-marks, a demand the university management said can never be accepted or allowed to thrive in the institution. In a statement signed by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Victor Peretemode, a copy of which was made available to DAILY POST in Asaba, said the three lecturers are stagnated for three years while the professor would be retired from the university system next week.
