Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

Sergio Ramos breaks record for most international wins as he helps Spain beat Faroe Islands Sergio Ramos now holds the record for the most wins in international football after helping Spain thrash Faroe Islands 4-1.  The Real Madrid defender opened the scoring as Spain secured a comfortable victory in the Euro 2020 qualifier. As reported by Sportbible, Ramos has now won 122 international games, which surpassed his former Spain team-mate Iker Casillas, who broke the record seven years ago. Ramos has been capped by Spain on 164 occasions, having made his international debut against China in 2005. Deputy National Chairman, North of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Lawal Shuaibu has asked the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomole to resign. Shuaibu, in a six-page letter addressed to Oshiomole, said the APC chair has failed to add value to the party and should resign. “It is my honest opinion that your ability to ensure this party flourishes is deficient as you lack the necessary composure and you also don’t possess the capabilities and the requisite experience to run a political party,” the letter reads Shuaibu’s letter came after the APC lost of all Zamfara elected posts to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the just concluded general election. The APC candidate, Mukhtar Shehu won in the election, but the Supreme Court sacked the candidate as the winner for not being nominated via a valid primary election. The judge declared PDP Bello Matawalle as the governor-elect of Zamfara state and has been issued Certificate of Return.

Facebook Facebook’s efforts to crack down on misinformation and sensational content have reduced the time spent at the leading social network eroding, researchers said Tuesday. The average amount of time US adults spent at Facebook dropped by three minutes per day last year and will likely decrease by another minute next year, to a total of 37 minutes daily, according to the research firm eMarketer. The report suggests that Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to focus on safety and remove divisive and hateful content could be having an economic impact. “Facebook’s continued loss of younger adult users, along with its focus on down-ranking clickbait posts and videos in favour of those that create ‘time well spent,’ resulted in less daily time spent on the platform in 2018 than we had previously expected,” said eMarketer principal analyst Debra Aho Williamson. “Less time spent on Facebook translates into fewer chances for marketers to reach the network’s users.” ...

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially recognized gaming addiction as a Mental Health Disorder. The WHO's International Classification of Diseases (ICD),  describes addiction to digital and video gaming as "a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior" that becomes so extensive it "takes precedence over other life interests". The WHO's expert on mental health and substance abuse, Shekhar Saxena, said some of the worst cases seen in global research were of gamers playing for up to 20 hours a day, forgoing sleep, meals, work or school and other daily activities. He stressed that only a small minority of people who play digital and video games would develop a problem, but said recognition of early warning signs may help prevent it. The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said that its members should not be held responsible if there is any disruption in the University system, as the Federal Government had not shown commitment to carrying out the 2019 Memorandum of Action. ASUU National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, stated this at a briefing in Abuja, to give an update on the ongoing renegotiation with the government and to clear the air over the N25billion confirmed by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, to have been approved for universities. The Federal Government has confirmed the acquisition of an Amplitude Modulation radio broadcast licence, to reach herdsmen across various locations in the country. The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, stated this in Abuja during an interview with newsmen. According to Adamu, the establishment of the radio frequency, was to end the perennial farmers-herders crisis across the country. The Minister explained that the radio service would operate on frequency of 720KHz and would air in Fulani language. Adamu said, “The radio service will serve as a vehicle for social mobilisation and education, in addition to interactive radio instruction methodology that will be adopted to reach the very hard-to-reach segment of our target population. “Additionally, it will enhance our capacity to address crisis between herders and farmers with attendant consequences to loss of lives, destruction of productive assets, nomadic schools, facilities teaching and learning resources.”

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) results. Senate President Bukola Saraki (file) The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has lost the Kwara Central Senatorial District election to Ibrahim Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Returning Officer, Professor Olawale Olatunbosun, announced this on Sunday shortly after collating the results of the election in the zone. According to him, Oloriegbe polled a total of 123,808 votes to defeat Senator Saraki of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 68,994 votes. A breakdown of the results of the elections conducted revealed that the Senator-elect defeated the Senate President in all four local government areas in Kwara Central senatorial district. Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced this Sunday evening while formally declaring open the National Collation Centre. “From today, the collation centre is hereby declared open until the final determination of the 2019 presidential election. During the course of proceedings, there may be interludes or adjournments and these will be announced by the Chief Returning Officer. “At the moment no State Collation Officer has is around. Some of them are expected tonight. Accordingly, proceedings are hereby adjourned. We will reconvene by 11am tomorrow Monday 25th February for the collation of results”, he declared.
