Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. Mama Biafra A pro-Biafra supporter identified as Mrs. Felicia Ejezie, popularly known as Mama Biafra was arraigned at the Umuahia Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate Linda Ugboaja. She was arraigned by the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Ogbizi, on Friday for selling Pro-Biafia newspapers. The Police had in the charge number U/9512018, charged Ejezie, aged 55 years for “promoting membership of a terrorist group, IPOB by selling different IPOB newspapers”, thereby committing “an offence punishable section 64(A) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 80 Vol 3, Laws of Abia state of Nigeria 2005”. The woman pleaded not guilty. However, the Police prosecuting Counsel opposed bail application by her lawyer, Grant N. Nwokoma on the condition that her crime was seditious in nature and that she may abscond if granted bail. The Magistrate, Linda Ugboaja ignored the plea by the Police prosecuting Counsel not to grant Mrs. Ejezie bail and granted her bail in the sum of N300,000....

Human rights group blames Borno govt over expelled Nigerian refugees

The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC), a human rights group, has blamed the Borno State Government over the plight of no fewer than 100,000 refugees recently expelled from Cameroon. Cameroon is currently home to more than 370,000 refugees, including some 100,000 from Nigeria, according to the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). Recently, the Cameroonian government started the eviction of the refugees with a larger proportion of the affected persons being women, children, and persons that are infirm on account of old age, injury or poor health.
