Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has told Nigerians that it would be disasterous if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, returns to power in 2029.
Amaechi said the party was “desperate and hungry for power.’’
He spoke at a Special Town Hall Meeting on Infrastructure organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture in Ibadan.
The Minister said the PDP, while in power, turned the nation to a “feeding bottle” by abandoning critical infrastructure and “ sucking” the economy for personal gains.
The minister urged Nigerians to resist the PDP by voting for Buhari and ensuring that they guarded their votes during the 2019 general elections.
Amaechi also said that the ruling party was prepared for an open debate with the PDP on the successes recorded, especially on infrastructure development.
“We are ready for the PDP candidate to confront us with what they achieved in 16 years and compare them to what we have done in just three and half years.
“We are open for the debate, our achievements on infrastructure are there to showcase,” he said.
The minister disclosed that the government was working hard to ensure the completion of Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail project by February 2019.
“We are working day and night on this project and we have started laying the tracks from Papalanto.
“I want to thank the people and the communities along the rail tracks for their cooperation because they have never given us trouble,” he said.
The minister also said that after completing the Lagos-Ibadan section of the project, the focus would turn to the Lagos-Kano standard gauge.

Transfer: Chelsea striker to join Fabregas at Monaco

Monaco have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Chelsea striker, Michy Batshuayi, after his loan spell at Valencia was cut short. Goal reports Batshuayi’s agent, Meissa N’Diaye, has arrived in the Principality to hold further talks regarding a move. Everton had been considering a bid of up £18million ($23m) for Batshuayi, given they are unable to sign him on loan. However, Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is already plying his trade at Goodison Park on a temporary basis, with Premier League rules stating a maximum of one player can be loaned to another club at any one time. Should he complete the move to the Ligue 1 outfit, he would be reunited with Thierry Henry, with the former Arsenal striker and current Monaco manager having previously worked as a coach for the Belgian national team. Batshuayi would also become the second Chelsea player to move to the Stade Louis II during the January window after Cesc Fabregas.

VC, Provost, others to face EFCC for alleged embezzlement in Ekiti

The visitation panels set up by Governor Kayode Fayemi over the financial activities of some tertiary academic and health institutions in Ekiti State have indicted the managements of the institutions for alleged abuse of office. Among the infractions allegedly committed by the managements, according to the government, were cases of financial recklessness allegedly perpetrated by heads of the institutions. Briefing newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday after the two days State executive council meeting presided over by Fayemi, the Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said the council considered the white paper on each of the institutions and took far reaching decisions on them. He said part of the decisions taken was that, the government must set up functional governing councils in all the institutions to be able to implement panels’ decisions in line with the laws.
