Nigeria Police Force  has rolled out a new advertisement asking Nigerians aged between 18 and 25 years old to apply for positions of constable. The advertisement did not indicate how many positions are available, unlike the previous recruitment several years ago, when the Force recruited 10,000 men and women across cadres. The new move comes after President Muhammadu Buhari approve a new condition of service for policemen, including generous housing allowances. According to the police, eligible applicants must hold O’Level certificate with five credits and at least a pass in English and Mathematics, at not more that two sittings. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday announced that registration for 2019/ 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence in December. The Head of Media of the Board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced this while addressing newsmen during the conduct of promotion exercise for the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), at the board’s Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre in Abuja,NAN reports. According to Benjamin, no specific date has been fixed for the commencement of the registration yet. He, however, said that plans were underway to do so as soon as possible as the board was initially waiting for the pronouncement of the presidency on the reduction of the examinations fee, which was formally announced on Wednesday. Reports coming in from Nonwa of Tai Local Government Area of Rivers state has it that the training centre for newly employed members of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Corp, has been invaded by soldiers who have shutdown the training camp based on “orders from above.” The Neighbourhood Safety Corp, which is also operational in Lagos State, was setup by the Rivers State Government to assist the security agencies in the State manage security issues as well as provide jobs for Rivers people. Strike: ASUU Tells Parents, Students What To Do As Strike Continues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has appealed to parents and students to be patient over its decision to reposition and save the country’s university system from total collapse. ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday. DAILY POST recalls that the university lecturers had, embarked on strike, demanding for the implementation of the 2009 agreement it entered into with the Federal Government. Ogunyemi said that the strike was not to short-change neither the students nor the parents and other key stakeholders but to save the country’s university system from collapse. He said, “We want to call on our students and parents to show understanding with our struggle as we are in this together. “The whole essence of this struggle is to ensure that our students get worthy and deserving certificates that they will be proud of anywhere they may find themselves in the world. “

General strike in Burkina Faso over fuel prices hike

Several thousand people took the streets of Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou on Thursday as workers downed tools in a nationwide strike over higher fuel prices. Petrol and diesel prices have shot up 12 percent over the past three weeks, sparking a wave of protest. While speaking after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting in State House Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has reduced the cost of forms for some terminal examinations in the country. He said the examination forms are for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, organised by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO), as well as the Basic Education Certificate Examination. The outbreak, which began on August 1, has now killed 241 people, the ministry said in a statement late on Tuesday. “There have been 241 deaths,” the ministry said in an update correct to November 26, indicating there had been a total of 421 cases — 374 of them confirmed, and another 47 probable. Another 74 suspected cases are under investigation. The outbreak is the tenth in DR Congo since Ebola was first detected there in 1976. Update On Nigerian Man Accused Of Killing And Dismembering Teenage Girl In Italy.

The Nigerian alleged drug pusher, Innocent Oseghale charged with the murder and dismemberment of 18-year-old lady named Pamela Mastropietro in Italy, was on Monday sent to trial February 13, 2019. A preliminary hearings judge rejected Oseghale’s bid for a fast-track trial. It was reported that Oseghale, 29, admitted to a cellmate who is a police informant that he killed Mastropietro before chopping her up. Oseghale denied the claim when the informant’s testimony was read out to him at a preliminary hearing. He again admitted to chopping up the 18-year-old Roman woman’s body but not to her homicide, sources said. Mastropietro’s dismembered body was found in two suitcases outside Pollenza near Macerata on January 31. Oseghale is accused of rape, homicide and trying to hide a body and contempt for a human corpse. He said they had consensual sex. File Photo Five persons were confirmed dead on Tuesday while two others sustained injuries in an accident involving a Subaru car and a Honda bus at Orile Imo area on the Sagamu/Abeokuta expressway. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta. Akinbiyi noted that the accident was caused by speeding which made the driver of the Honda bus with registration number EKY 365 FB to lose control. The TRACE spokesman said the driver veered into the other lane and collided with the Subaru car with registration number KTU 246 AT inbound Abeokuta.
