Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. President Muhammadu Buhari has requested the Senate to confirm Mr Chidi Izuwah as Director- General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).
The president in a letter dated Oct. 19, urged the senate to expeditiously confirm the nominee.
The letter was read by the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, at plenary on Tuesday.
Similarly, the president asked the senate to confirm Mr Kabir Nakura as Chairman of the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
This is contained in a letter dated Oct. 24 and addressed to the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki.
In the letter, Buhari also asked the senate to confirm Mr Akinola Bashir – South-West, Prof. Moses Momoh – South-South and Mr Wallijo Ahijoh – North-Central as members of the board.
Others are: Mr Adamu Modu -North-East and Nwafo Chukwudi -South-East.
