Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. ASUU strike: FG pleads with lecturers, promises to pay new minimum wage

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has pleaded with striking university teachers to show mercy on students by calling off their strike.
The teachers, under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), began a nationwide strike since November, last year, over some disagreement between the union and the Federal Government.
Ngige, speaking with reporters in Awka, Anambra State on Sunday, also declared that Federal Government would pay a minimum wage, adding that things were being worked out by the Committee saddled with that responsibility.
He said: “FG will comfortably pay minimum wage, we want to pay it, but there must be balancing because figures were bandied and we are asking Labour to exercise patience.
“I appeal to ASUU and Labour to have mercy on students and be patient. As far as I’m concerned, we have treated Labour well. And they should also know I’m a comrade and that is why I always intervened on matters that concern them.”
The FG and Labour representatives adjourned their meeting until Monday (today), after a five-hour deliberation last Friday.

Egypt Sentences Eight IS Jihadists To Death Over Attack

An Egyptian military court sentenced eight members of the Islamic State group to death on Wednesday for a deadly attack against the army in 2016, several regime sources told AFP. The court in Ismailia in the country’s northeast also sentenced 32 people to life imprisonment — a term of 25 years under Egyptian law — while two others were given 15 years. Two defendants were acquitted, a military source said. The eight who were sentenced to death were not present in court, a judicial source told AFP without elaborating. The accused were tried for “the killing of several soldiers and the attack on a checkpoint and an army vehicle” in 2016, the military source said, without giving further details. All were identified as members of the Egyptian branch of IS, which has led an insurgency in North Sinai and carried out several attacks across the country.
