Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. Church of Saint Lazarus

The Church of Saint Lazarus (Church of Agios Lazaros) was founded in the 9th century. It is traditionally believed to be the final resting place of Lazarus of Bethany whom Jesus Christ raised from the dead. It is said that after shortly after the resurrection of Christ, Lazarus fled Judea owing to threats to his life and arrived Cyrus before he was made the first Bishop of Kition by Paul and Barnabas.

The Tombs of the Kings

A World Heritage Site, there are several underground tombs that were used in the Roman period which dates back to the 3rd century. Contrary to the name, they were used by commoners but the tombs were arranged in such a way that they appeared grand.

Kykkos Monastery

The Holy Monastery of the Virgin of Kykkos is one of the most popular monasteries in Cyprus. Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos found the monastery in the 11th century.
Although the original monastery is no longer there because of the numerous firebreaks, a building dating back to 1831 remains. Remember to be properly dressed when visiting here.

The House of Achilles

This Roman building is as old as the 4th century A.D and was found in the ancient Kingdom of Kourion. This House of Achilles villa has a rare mosaic floor. The building gets its name from the mosaic floor which shows Achilles’ true identity reveal by Odysseus in king Lycomedes‘s court at Skyros.
