NANS NATIONAL ASO-ROCK MEETING: A JUSTIFICATION OF LAGOS JCC AUTONOMY

For years now, NANS National body has proven to be relatively weak through the actions and inactions of those steering the affairs of the association; these persons have continually drag the students' wing backward and have made students representatives less interesting group in the modern Nigerian society, especially in the face of those we claim to be representing.

It cannot be gainsaid that students have lost interests in NANS with the treacherous acts being engaged in by those that are expected to protect the interests of the students and also fight fo their course in the face of oppression and tyranny.

It must be stated that NANS has a history of fighting for the course of Nigerian Students both home and abroad, and also the impoverished working class as stated in the NANS Charter of Demand which is the guiding document of our dear association from the days of the military through early 2000s. But, it is very unfortunate that NANS has lose focus and its now being turned to political tools in the hands of Nigeria politicians through the help of mediocres steering the ship of NANS; therefore, it is now incumbent on forces outside the central to rise and ensure that the States' axis of NANS have ample autonomy that would be enough to bring her people out this retarded journey we have suddenly find ourselves because, this is the only duty we owe posterity in ensuring that this association is not totally ruined.

After listening to the recent ugly development of NANS National activity at the Presidential Villa, Abuja where a meeting was held with the President of the country against the interests of Nigerian students, we, (NANS/JCC Lagos axis) seizes this medium to reiterate to Nigerian Students in Lagos State that we are not in anyway a part to the recent sell out of the Nigerian students' priority. It must be stated that we did everything within our capacity to foil the said meeting when our attention was brought to it some two days ago through a whatsapp post from the NANS National president but we immediately made it known of our none participation in such meeting. It must also be stated that the President asking students' leadership to plead with lecturers to return to the classes despite the fact that the government has failed to meet with their demands, coupled with the lackadaisical attitude being shown towards education is like asking a person to throw away the water while soap bath is all over the face.

It is interesting to note that we have continue to meet with relevant ASUU, ASUP and COEASU leadership in the state on how to join hands and force the government to meet with the demands and needs of our sister bodies; this, is in a bid to solidarise with them as stated in the NANS Charter of Demand. Though, we believe in result oriented approach, we shall not hesitate to release the procedures we have taken in recent months to work in line with these unions to all students in the State.

We wish to openly tell the present NANS National President, Comr. Bamidele Akpan never to dream of coming to Lagos for any official outing on behalf of Nigerian students as we (NANS JCC Lagos) have lost faith in his leadership.

NANS JCC Lagos is fully in support of ASUU and we urge our sister bodies not to bend on their demands until the government fulfills every single one of the demands.

On behalf of the whole students in Lagos state, we hereby await the resolution of the meeting between ASUU and FG slated for Monday, 7th January, 2019 before we swing into our next Line of Action.

We are Lagos!!!
We are Unique!!!
