University Student And Her Boyfriend Flogged Publicly For Hugging Each Other (Photos)

The woman was flogged for hugging
Two teenagers have received the flogging of their lives in Indonesia’s Aceh province. The teenagers were whipped 17 times each after spending months in jail because they were caught hugging.
A female university student and her boyfriend, both 18, were handed the sentence under strict Sharia law in the province, which forbids intimate displays in public.
The pair were marched on to a stage in front of a mosque in the provincial capital of Banda Aceh before being struck across the back with a bamboo cane.
Afterward, Banda Aceh deputy mayor Zainal Arifin said: ‘People outside of Aceh who think Islamic Sharia is cruel can now see that it is actually very tolerant and humane.’
Hundreds of spectators gathered to watch the punishment being carried out.

Delivering judgement in an appeal filed by Nyako today February 11th, the Court of Appeal ruled that the process leading to his impeachment contravened the provisions of the Law. Justice Tunde Ayotoye who read the unanimous judgement, said Nyako was not given fair hearing during his impeachment and that his rights were violated by the Assembly members. The court in its ruling, ordered that all his entitlement before and after leaving office should be paid. The judges however dismissed Nyako's appeal to be reinstated as Governor of the state. The judges ruled that his tenure as governor had elapsed.
