7-Year-Old Ugandan Child Rapper Asked To Stop Singing Or Face Jail Time

A Ugandan child rapper, Fresh Kid (Patrick Senyonjo), has been told to stop singing or risk his manager going to jail or even himself going to Juvenile prison, Daily Monitor reports. This new threat is coming on the heels of reports that he skips school and performs in clubs.
Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi Youth minister said this during an interview on Uganda’s NBS channel that his fans could face jail time if they are found supporting him because it is against the labour law to work at his age.

“Children who are below 18 years are not allowed to perform and enter in clubs, so I am going to do everything possible to stop kids from performing and entering in clubs,” Florence Nakiwala said making reference to the seven-year-old.

In a country where 80% of her population live in rural communities, gender parity has been achieved and about 86% of children between the ages of 6-11 attend primary schools.

“I take this opportunity to warn all of you who are engaging children in things like this and renting them houses, you will also be arrested according to the law.”

However, his manager Francis Kamoga who also discovered him insists that he paid Fresh Kid’s school fees after moving him from the village without getting money in return.

“I discovered him in a rural village miming some songs, brought him to the city and started paying his school fees.”

This he said while claiming that he performs only on Saturdays and Sundays leading him to have two shows, one music video and three shows in 2019.
Yet, his latest song Banteka addresses “losers” and the media who talk about him not attending school.

“They underrate me because of my age – I hear what you are gossiping about, asking ‘will he study?'” he raps.

“Losers are weeping, calling out to their mothers. If you are afraid of me, get me cash. I’m the judge, I do not discriminate. Even if you are from the stone age, I will floor you.”
