Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for  Labour  and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. Exam malpractices: Management of Polytechnic of Ibadan burns phones seized from students (Photos)

The management of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo state on Wednesday, July 10th, set ablaze myriad of cell phones seized from its students during examination periods.
The Deputy Rector of the institution, Bayo Oyeleke, who monitored the exercise, said the phones worth millions of naira, were recovered from the students during examination in the school and that the school has decided to burn the phones to restate its commitment to fight examination malpractices to the barest level.
“We are here to take further action on our resolved to ensure that the crop of students and product being produced by the school are students with exemplary character and are those who really work and worth the certificate of the institution.” he said.
Oyeleke added that the exercise will serve as deterrent to students of the institution who wish to further indulge in the illegal and inappropriate act.

Breaking News: Abia State To Get A New Governor, PDP Is Out

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the April 11 Abia state governorship election and the April 25 supplementary election, has been sacked. Alex Otti (left) and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu (right) The court delivered judgement on the election petition in the last day of the year 2015. According to the ruling, Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election, ordered his immediate swearing-in. The APGA candidate scored 164,444 valid votes to defeat Ikpeazu of the PDP, who secured 114,444 votes. The Owerri-based five-member panel of the court of appeal was headed by Justice Oyebisi Omoleye. The justice said the cancellation of the elections held in three local govenment areas, Obingwa, Osisioma Ngwa and Isiala Ngwa, was unlawful. The returning officer has the right to only declare the results, but not to cancel the election. Omoleye had previously struck out the preliminary objections by Ikpeazu’s (PDP) counsel
